Legendary singer S Janaki to quit singing career
It was long back in 1957 that the Andhra-born playback singer S. Janaki, now popularly known as Nightingale of South India began singing in films. Vidhiyin Vilaiyattu was the first film she sang in and there was never been a break in her career since then. The 78-year old veteran singer has been one of the most active persons in the industry till date and has gone on to bag numerous awards over the years including the Padma Bhushan Award. She holds one of the most monumental singing records in the nation having sung over 48,000 songs sung in nearly 17 languages.
Feeling satisfied with her achievements, S. Janaki has now decided to call it a day after singing a lullaby track for a Malayalam film. Stating that the track ‘Ammapoovinu’ from the Anoop Menon and Meera Jasmine starrer 10 Kalpanakal will be her last work, the National Award-winning singer has stated that she is old enough to take rest now. “It will be my final song. I will not be recording anymore nor will I be singing at any functions,” says the singer, who has so mesmerized listeners with her songs that convey innumerable emotions.
