Sabarimala Temple’s name changed to ‘Sri Ayyappa Temple’
Kerala’s Sabarimala temple now to be known as Sree Ayyappaswamy Temple
Sabarimala Temple will now be called ‘Sri Ayyappa Temple’ ……
Board authorities said the decision to change the name of the temple was taken at the meeting of the board on October 5.
The Devaswom Board has changed the name of Sabarimala Dharma Sastha Temple to Sri Ayyappa Swamy Temple.
In the order issued in this regard, the board cites a legend to explain the decision.
Centuries ago, Ayyappa Swamy had merged into the Dharma Shastha in Sabarimala after completing his mission. From then on, the Dharma Sastha Temple in Sabarimala became Ayyappa Swamy Temple.
The order says that Ayyappa Swamy was consecrated in the re-consecration held after the temple was set on fire years ago.
Sabarimala is the only place where Ayyappa Swamy is residing. This is the reason crores of devotees reach this place. The order says that Ayyappa Swamy temple is located only at Sabarimala though there are several Dharma Sastha Temples belonging to the Devaswom Board, The order signed by the secretary has been published in the Devaswom Board website.
